Working Full Time on a Lab Site
Full-time on-site work is a traditional work arrangement where the nature of the position’s duties require an employee to work full time on one of our Lab sites in order to fulfill mission-essential research and support.
Employees who work on a Lab site as their primary work arrangement may be eligible to telework on an occasional basis. As a general rule, this unplanned type of telework would occur about 12 days a year. Supervisors may approve occasional requests at their discretion without a formal agreement. Examples include ad hoc situations, such as the need to be home for a delivery or technician, or a need to attend a personal appointment located close to home during the workday.
Flexible Work Options Eligibility
As indicated throughout this document, division and area leadership will determine whether or not flexible work options are appropriate depending on the criteria they develop that best meet their business needs. Flexible work arrangements are available for all employee classifications based on business need, including represented and non-represented classifications.
Note: Affiliates and contractors are not Berkeley Lab employees so are not assigned a formal flexible work arrangement and are not tracked in the Work Mode Assignment system. However, hosts or technical representatives should determine the appropriate level of on-site and off-site engagement based on applicable factors, such as the activities performed, scope of work, or terms of the subcontract agreement as applicable.
New hires are eligible for an appropriate flexible work arrangement prior to the expiration of their probationary period (as applicable) as determined by the hiring supervisor and division/area leadership. Internal transfers are eligible if approved by the hiring supervisor and division/area leadership. An assigned flexible work arrangement may be terminated or modified if the arrangement is no longer meeting requirements and expectations, or if the business needs warrant.
