An Interlocation Appointment (ILA) is an arrangement under which a Berkeley Lab employee is assigned to an eligible institution to perform work, at a specified percentage of effort (which may range from 1% to 100%), duration, and cost.
While on the ILA assignment, the employee continues to receive 100% of his/her paycheck and benefits through Berkeley Lab. This ensures continuity of the employee’s pay, UC employment history/service credit and benefits.
An ILA cannot be used as a substitute for the Work for Others (WFO) program or to reduce costs for the host institution.
