Berkeley Lab’s Pay for Family Care and Bonding (PFCB) policy is expanding on January 1, 2023 to increase income replacement from 70% to 100% of eligible earnings. This change is in alignment with UC policy’s PFCB expansion announced on December 6, 2022 on UCnet. For additional information and frequently asked questions, see the UCnet article.
In addition, the California Family Rights Act (CFRA) is being amended effective January 1, 2023 to permit employees to take protected leave to care for a “designated person” with a serious health condition. Under the CFRA, a designated person will mean “any individual related by blood or whose association with the employee is the equivalent of a family relationship.”
Updates to the Pay for Family Care and Bonding (PFCB) policy and the Family and Medical Leave policy will be published in early 2023.
Employees with questions about PFCB and/or CFRA, or who are planning a leave should contact Berkeley Lab’s Integrated Disability and Absence Management (IDAM) team at IDAM@lbl.gov.
